The home-bound R&D-centric tech business enterprise POCKET FULL GADGETS PRIVATE LIMITED recently launched RABBIT Wave Buds Pro. I had some hands-on experience with the TWS, Active Noise-cancelling earbuds and this is my take on them.

Package

I loved the minimalistic look of the case and the earbuds. It was nice to see that the manufacturer has paid attention to detail with the construction of the case and the earbuds. The ear tips too felt of good quality and should provide a good grip on your ears if you select the right size for your ears.

RABBIT Wave Buds Pro comes loaded with features seen on permium earbuds. Active Noise Cancellation, ENC, Bluetooth 5.1, low latency and up to 7 hours of non-stop lively sound output that is certain to be tuned to the ears of tune aficionados and game enthusiasts alike. Additionally, if you want to use them at the gym, please go ahead, the IPX4 rating means that the earbuds should perform just fine while you sweat it out.

Paytm Boss Vijay Shekhar Sharma Flags A ‘Next Level Fraudster’ Phishing Scam That You Can’t Afford To Miss.

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Someone pulled a Jamtara on Paytm founder and boss Vijay Shekhar Sharma, without even realizing dude’s the baap of Indian fintech. In (now deleted) tweet, the maverick shared a screenshot of the message. The message is apparently sent by a Dr. Larry Greens from the USA, who, in the most grammatically incorrect English, asks Sharma ji to reply via a scam gmail address. The scammer is allegedly looking for an Indian partner to provide raw materials. The alleged Dr Larry Greens from USA apparently uses an Indian sim. The Paytm boss called the scammer ‘next level fraudster.’

Users commented on his post relating to phishing scams they have encountered themselves. A couple of users even mocked the fraudster for being too lazy to even try a bit harder than being a Dr Green.

Scammers have evolved over time. The advent of social media has been a boon to fraudsters. The lay flush tons of personal data online without a bother. The more cautious bunch get scammed too. Even without a social media presence, your data ends up in the dark alleys of the interwebs. Your resume on job portals is more than just handy. It reveals your social and professional profile. It also reveals how desperate you are for a job. And before you know, job offers with full flexibility of working from home with ridiculous packages hits your inbox, with a link. G-d forbid you click any.

Scammers’ modus operandi evolve with every set of data they lay hands on. Be vigilant and don’t fall prey to suspicious links and messages that bump into your Instagram, LinkedIn, Whatsapp, or mail. And if you come across one, by all means share it like Paytm’s boss did. It helps the most vulnerable ones.

Understanding Music Trends With Spotify

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Audio content has been consumed for ages in the form of music on the radio, organized cassettes, CDs and then online music. We connect it with total strangers’ voices on, relax, or even conduct scientific experiments on the human body in some cases. But Gen Z has no time, even for themselves. So have they stopped listening to radio and music altogether, or is something new that they fancy now? Do they ever sit with a cup of tea in their hand and listen to music? Where do they find that music? To help us understand music consumption and trends better we had a podcast interview by host Prasenjit Das with Vasundhara Mudgil, Head of communications and Rahul Balyan, Head of Music, both from Spotify India.

To listen to the interview click HERE

Prasenjit

As opposed to less than a decade ago, when cassettes and CDs became a thing which is now a thing of the past and music was downloaded from various places on the internet, where is music being accessed now?

Rahul Balyan

I think if you look at the general trends that we’ve seen in the music industry has evolved, we have gone from a physical format of consumption to completely digital. We’ve gone through all the stages of music – from cassettes to vinyl, CDs, the music players we used, other devices that we used to consume music on, and buying the physical formats of the content. And then, of course, we moved towards the internet and technology converted offline music to its digital form. The music jumped out of the physical format to the digital format. There was a period when piracy was reigning supreme and suddenly, people were probably consuming more music than ever, although, the industry suffered severely because of it. Then came the era of streaming.

It started with some sort of scepticism. People weren’t really convinced about how this category of content is going to take off, they were worried that it would end up harming the ecosystem. But today, revenues of the music industry are back to where they were when the decline started in 2014. Today streaming is the single biggest source of revenue. It has brought the entire industry back into legitimate consumption. It’s made music accessible to everybody. The relationship between consumers to their music has changed they can access every single piece of music with just a tap. It really shows the evolution of music consumption. It has become a much more integral part of people’s lives given how easily accessible it is. The tedious process of actually going to a store picking up a CD, and still having a limited listening experience is long gone. We are in a new world of streaming now.

Prasenjit – Mashable India

So basically, it’s also been made more accessible because now it’s in everybody’s hands.

Rahul Balyan

Yes, absolutely.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Just like Americans, now Indians, especially Gen Z, are working so much that burnout has become a part of their work culture. Despite that, they continue to keep working, which has led to stress and anxiety. According to you, when are they the most stressed?

Vasundhara

Music is a very important part of how they unwind throughout their day. To delve deeper, we did research earlier this year and one of the things we realized is, that, with the kind of exposure that all of us have today, many of us are global citizens. We are constantly accessing social media and living in world of hustle culture. Burnout has become very common for Gen Z, even the millennials to a great extent. They do tend to feel more stressed, just before going to bed, they’ve probably put aside their device by then, and they’re starting to think about how the day was and what they want to accomplish the next day. They also feel very stressed in the morning, when they’re still in bed. And again, they’re thinking about everything they need to get done through the day. They are thinking about work and school, depending on where they are in the Gen Z age group. And what we discovered is that streaming media, both music and videos provides comfort.

So 37% of Gen Z listen to music, what’s ahead of the percentage of Gen Z who watch music videos. So it is really interesting to see that audio comes upfront when you talk about managing stress for Gen Z.

Rahul Balyan

It’s interesting to see the ways that Gen Z finds to unwind. For them, music is ahead of video consumption. They seem to gravitate towards short-form content. We’ve also seen a few specific trends in music consumption as well. There’s this whole genre of Lo-Fi music, which has come about and it is a response to the lockdown we saw and the increased level of stress that came with it and how music can help you go through your day, work, help you with your studies. It became something which is which doesn’t disturb you but goes on in the background making the environment a little light and tolerable. We’re seeing a few music trends which reflect how music aids the sense of mental well-being.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Could you tell me about this new word Lo-Fi? I am sure it is unknown to our parents. But known to the millennial.

Rahul Balyan

There’s a technical definition of it which is low fidelity, and it’s some sort of a scratch of a song, which probably has not been produced with the best finishing. But it has taken on a slightly different meaning now. It is now associated with music, which is a little more mellow, there is a Lo-Fi version of a song. It adds a bit of white noise to the song and some clarity. It dampens down the extremes and the notes of the song making it easier and mellow to listen to. We saw this trend come about in a fairly large way. As a matter of fact, the internet was full of illegal versions of love songs. There were enthusiasts who would just pick up a song, add some filters and digital processes to it, and they would just convert that into a slightly easier version. And suddenly, these Lo-Fi versions started appearing on the charts. Labels were scrambling to strike them down but after a while, they realized that this is a trend and something they should respond to. Even we reached out to the labels, giving them the reasoning behind this trend and told them to do something as a response. Now the labels are in the act themselves. A lot of them are releasing the Lo-Fi version of the song. There are a whole bunch of LoFi collections being released. It has become a legit trend and one of the biggest consumers of this trend is Gen Z. The share of consumption of LoFi music is highest among GenZ.

Prasenjit – Mashable India

So since you mentioned, like, this is a trending thing, and GenZ is the biggest consumer of it, so is it like a genre? And if it is, like, what other kinds of genres in audio have been preferred by Gen Z? Like, does it help reduce the stress they’re going through?

Rahul Balyan

Genre, itself is a broad concept and has no definite meaning to it. So let’s say Lo-Fi sounded like a piece of culture to me, as it could make use of time like the 90s is a genre which is why I’d say it really has a wide meaning. It’s not necessarily about the type of music as a word but Lo-Fi as a category of music as a type of music is pretty large and definitely here to stay.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

So I just want you to know, like, why is Gen Z consuming it so much? That you said it’s the most pending one? So does it help in relaxing them? So what other kinds of genres are also there that are being consumed or are trained?

Rahul Balyan

Yeah, so if you really think about it, you know, music is not a foreground, necessarily but definitely a lot about the background. I mean, while music videos are in the foreground, when you are actively leaning forward, you’re engaging in a lean culture mode. A lot of this music is in their pocket, they are carrying on with their routine chores, commuting to college, studying and a lot more hustle throughout the day. It always aims at enhancing the state of mind no matter what activity is being done, music relaxes oneself you’re feeling relaxed, and there is some sort of resonance that you find with music. So in terms of the larger trends that we see, Lo-Fi is one of the biggest categories of consumption in India and then there is something that users resonate with which they call ‘The Sad Music. It comes with various names, some call it heartbreak, and sad among others. In the South, there’s a specific term that they use, which is very interesting, they call it love failure. So it’s a very specific term, which varies across the country. Besides, there seem to be a lot of others genres which are very popular for instance romance is again, something really big. Every individual’s emotion resonates a lot with music, and that reflects how popular some of these categories of music are. And yes, people obviously consume music for all sorts of reasons. Specifically, when we talk about music as a stress buster, we see a significant amount of inclination towards that as well. Finally, sun up, some of the most popular music tends to be on the melodic side on the more mellow side. Things like that with music, allow you to, in a way, relax your mind while you’re probably going about your day.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Doesn’t melancholy reflect their own situation? In life? Do you think so?

Rahul Balyan

Yeah, I think so, as Vasundhara also mentioned in terms of the stress levels that Gen Z faces and the kind of stresses that they are kind of grappling with. Basically, almost 60-70% of the GenZ feel mental health is a huge issue in their lives. Their anxieties, range from education to, career to money- these are the key triggers, and they’re trying to figure out what to do next in life. Also, what we do agree is India is highly competitive, there are, of course, opportunities out there but definitely, but there is a lot of competition too. So while the youth is ambitious, they do know that they need to gear up to compete and somehow we have all gone through it ourselves. We know how India’s entire sort of system works, right, from education to career to everything else. So yeah, with all those issues that they grappled with they looked out for relief. What is interesting is that they find relief in connecting with their idols by streaming content online and music plays a big role there. They find a lot of inspiration and hope from following some of the people they look up to and musicians tend to be, again, pretty high! The study that Vasundhara mentioned was quite interesting to note that they look up to musicians, podcasters, and artists as friends and musicians seem to be bigger influencers in terms of their influence on people than even celebrity and social media influencers as well.

So yeah, while there are stresses for Gen Z however they are finding ways to cope with it through music and connection to artists is one big way in which the point is subject.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Since you mentioned, there’s so much so many things, too, for Gen Z to worry about college, relationships, and so much added information due to everyday rising content, you know. So, what causes them to worry the most? And, like, earlier, there was on YouTube, there used to be meditation, music, you know, that sort of thing. Like you’re mentioning this Lo-Fi? So is it still there? Are those sorts of music patterns also heard on a regular basis? Is that

Rahul Balyan

So there’s a lot of such music. So for example, we curate specifically for occasions where we can expect consumers or listeners to find music supporting, that activity. So there’s a really popular playlist called ‘Coding Mode’ that is the curator in India, and it has become really popular globally and we started curating it out of India. It has found its little niche in people who are working, people who are studying and students. Interestingly, Hans Zimmer showed his interest in this playlist and he took over and ran this playlist in his own way. So there are playlists like Coding Mode and many more like Mithra Radio, and Dhyanam that we are using in numerous ways. let’s say we’re looking at the Indian classical music and the entire time sort of heritage that we have a bit, And how can we use that to sort of help listeners focus better. So we have various, like Focus Raga, Healing Raga, Raga for Yoga and definitely a lot of them pertaining to mindfulness, eating your focus sort of playlists that are coming out there, you’re creating that you find a lot of consumption and demand for.

Vasundhara

I’ll just answer the other part of your question, which is, what is causing Gen Z to really stress?

We spoke to about 960 people in India, and this was a balance of male and female respondents. And this is what they feel. I had briefly talked about, how they worry about life, about school or work-related responsibilities but one major aspect is finances which sort of goes back to the entire hustle culture and what careers look like today are very different. People start earning at a very young age because they’re either a founder of a startup or maybe even doing something with social media. So finances and school or work-related responsibilities are at the core of their worries which means they keep contemplating how do they save money, and in all of this, they also realize that their stress levels are going up and are also worried about the same. They constantly ask themselves if they enjoying life enough, and they’re concerned about their loved ones’ health which means a lot of this is also intuitive but these are specifically for Gen Z. Given that many of them want to multitask, about 45% of them actually feel pressed for time, and they feel that there isn’t enough time in their day to do everything that they need to. We spoke to about 960 people and this is what they feel. A majority of them, actually also worry about or stress about planning around their busy schedules at least once a day so while they’re stressed about things, they’re also stressed about the fact of being stressed so it’s a little bit of a vicious circle. Rahul was talking about some of the playlists we have, but what we’ve also recently is something called ‘Pause with Spotify’, where essentially, we are trying to bring in Gen Z, millennials, whoever is consuming that kind of content, or not, to listen to podcasts. to listen to music, which helps them. So our mindfulness playlist – so it’s called Pause Mindfulness, that is doing very well. We were actually working with three mental health experts as a part of this initiative, as a part of this program. We’re not talking about Spotify, we’re just talking about really basic things that they go through. So whether it’s social fatigue, whether it’s social media trolling – like so many things that many of them experience in their daily lives. We’re talking about things like that through Spotify. So there’s a plethora of content that we’re creating and also curating on the platform.

Prasenjit – Mashable India

Well, I’m glad you mentioned podcasts because I was about to come to that. But before that, you know, I like to say that this time thing that you mentioned, I also feel that time-crunched, like I feel 24 hours are not enough. But I also feel that I’m somewhere between Gen Z and a millennial. I would like to ask you guys. Do you think you guys are Gen Z? Are you a millennial?

Vasundhara

I’m actually a millennial, but I work at Spotify. So often I feel like a Gen Z. But you’re right because I think many of us have similar challenges – whether it’s on the work front, whether it’s accessing social media, what’s consuming our day. We’re all watching a ton of content on OTT platforms. So, when you want to relax, but also want to get more done. So I think it is a little bit of a constant struggle.

Rahul Balyan

Yeah, I mean, I think I’m from a generation when these classifications were still being done – they were deciding names for them. So I ancient. I think I fall in Gen X or older millennial – that sort of boundary. But yeah, I think it’s the nature of the world as well, I guess. I think stress is part of our life. The world does seem to be spinning faster every day. You know, there are large-scale impacts that happen in all our lives. I’m imagining, what the youth is going through because of COVID and how it disrupted their education, how it has disrupted so many of their career ambitions, how it has affected the general economy and you know, what it does to you – if you’re trying to build a career in this sort of world today. There are much larger forces at play as well, and sometimes one can feel that we don’t have control over so much. And anyway, there are stresses of growing up and trying to make space for yourself in your own world. And, you know, coming to terms with who you are as a person. And then the world around you conspires to make it even more difficult, as an environment. So I think the general stress levels in the environment are massive. And I mean, you and I feel it. I think it’s a challenge. And everybody needs to learn more coping mechanisms for it, I guess.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Yeah. I mean, our coping mechanisms were beatings from our parents, at least for me.

So you mentioned that the pandemic did change a lot for youngsters today. But there’s one more thing that the pandemic did, and it was to push the podcast to the front. Because there was a lot of time on people’s hands, and they were at home. Podcasts, if I’m not wrong, started as a preferred mode of learning something new, because there were so many ads on the radio and all. And you know, it became a preferred choice for many in audio content. So now, when India is back in offices, and we will have less time, are podcast is still alive?

Vasundhara

So in one word, yes, podcasts continue to be popular. It’s a lot about habit-building. So many of the people who started listening to podcasts during the pandemic, continue to listen to podcasts even today. And the other side of the story is that the variety of content available in podcasts is extremely diverse today. So when the pandemic started, many people started making podcasts. Of course, a few of them sort of fell off but many continue to sustain what they were creating. This is across languages, formats and across genres of content. So one thing is very evident that, especially from a Gen Z perspective, there’s an inclination towards short-form podcasts, because, you know, we’ve talked about a time crunch, we’ve talked about time deficit, we’ve talked about the frantic schedules. So, half the people we spoke to, as a part of this research, prefer podcasts that are anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes in length. And they’re looking at content that motivates them, or they’re looking at storytelling content. Some of them are looking at science and news. So there’s a variety of content, and then there is an equally diverse variety of listeners for this content. I think it was last year or the year before, we did something called the Culture Next report. And the Culture Next report every year shows how inclined Gen Z is toward podcasts. So I think it was this year’s report that actually showed that just over 75% of the Gen Z audience in India, turns to the podcast to get answers to hard questions even before talking to their families, so they feel they can learn more on a podcast. So just a really interesting anecdote – there’s a podcast called The Sex Podcast by Leeza Mangaldas on Spotify and it’s a Spotify Exclusive. That does extremely well on the platform and it’s a sex education podcast. In India, it might not be easy to go up to your parents and have a conversation about sex. But you know, here’s this podcast that sort of helps answer questions around on some of the most basic and some of the most complex questions around sex and sexuality, so that’s doing very well.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

And these podcasts that you’re mentioning, these are international podcasts or Indians are making them?

Vasundhara

No, The Sex Podcast is actually an Indian podcast. So Leeza Mangaldas, who still actually creates a lot of content on the video as well, Instagram, YouTube, etc. But the audio content, of course, allows her to go deeper into topics and conversation so that does very, very well on Spotify. Mental health is the top podcast genre among the Gen Z audience globally. And that’s not very different in India either. I would say that any content that helps them centre themselves, that helps them educate themselves, as you rightly mentioned, is very popular. And that’s not changing – we will only find newer audiences.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Rahul, would you like to add to this? What kind of podcasts? Which is more trending – fiction or nonfiction?

Rahul Balyan

So, actually, it’s quite interesting. If you go into the Spotify app, we have podcast charts, and that give you a very quick sense of what are the top trending podcasts in India and you can see it on the app. So anyways, it’s a wide range, of course. But clearly, I think, self-help and self-growth and learning is a big areas. Sex is a subject of interest for a lot of Indians and a lot of youth. So, I think relationships and sex – those sorts of things do really well. Fiction, content and podcasts, again, show up very high on those charts. There are a bunch of podcasts by specific influencers. So influencers are making their presence in a new format of expression in the podcast, and I think, somewhere our efforts from the podcasting team are also to expand this whole creator base as well.

Prasenjit

Since it can be heard while doing something as well, people tend to listen to a longer episode and in detail rather than short content.

So, basically think about podcast consumption, as when your hands are busy, but your mind is free. So you can go about cooking, you’re in your kitchen, you are driving. How many of us somehow become used to the whole idea of going to work and you know, on your way, catching up with news, catching up with your favourite influencers, through a podcast? So I think the format of carrying on with life but still being able to consume content and information and knowledge or entertainment or while on the go while being busy, I think that that really is how we see podcasts growing. In terms of consumption – every 1 of 4 consumers on Spotify is consuming some podcasts or the other, it’s growing really fast as well.

Prasenjit

And this is India?

Vasundhara

Yeah, this is India. This 1 in 4 number is for India.

Prasenjit

That’s really amazing. I mean, we do have a good future out there.

Prasenjit

What type of activities is preferred by Gen Z to cool down and relax?

Vasundhara

So, online activities and streaming are definitely the most popular when it comes to relaxing, sort of making the most of your downtime. Interestingly, personal health and enjoyment take a backseat to financial stability. So we talked about this a bit earlier. Often, short-form content – whether it’s video or audio, is in the entertainment space. So this is not about learning. This is about entertainment. That’s what helps them feel relaxed. So short videos, listening to music, streaming music. So I think Rahul talked a fair bit about the kinds of music that Gen Z is listening to. Scrolling through social media, I think that’s probably all of us now. Watching movies helps them feel relaxed, play a game on the phone, spending time with their partner or with their friends. So these are some of the things again, I think these are obvious, but from a Spotify perspective, what we love seeing is that listening to music or streaming music comes up top.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

Yeah, I mean, just browsing on social media, and just seeing so much more things and getting stressed about it again, falling into the vicious circle – audio is much better.

Vasundhara

Yeah, I think one of the terms that are often used for the constant social media browsing is doom scrolling, which, I think that’s for real.

Prasenjit- Mashable India

I recently saw an ad where a girl says to her dad, “Papa Mujhe chalna nahi, Mujhe daudna hai”…. she has so less time. So how does audio help in that?

Vasundhara

So, I think audio helps from an educational learning perspective. So when you know that this is a time deficit, and you want to consume more information in lesser time, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing. So a majority of our time is actually spent away from the video, during the day. So 24 hours, maybe you’re watching a video, maybe for two hours, three hours – the rest of the time, you actually don’t have access to a TV screen necessarily. And so learning is a very, very important element of time, I wouldn’t say management, but like time deficit. You’re able to do more in that limited time you have when you’re on the road when you’re doing a chore when you’re out for a walk. It actually helps Gen Z feel happy. You know, nearly 50% of the respondents we spoke to, for them being able to manage time, is directly related to positive sentiments, emotions, and self-fulfilment. So a majority of them feel happy, and many of them feel satisfied or relieved. So streaming audio actually helps them learn but it also helps them switch off from the world. So when you’re listening to a science podcast, or when you’re listening to the news, you’re learning something. But when you’re listening to, say, a true crime podcast, you’re probably switching off from the day that you’ve had, and you’re going into this world of fiction, and imagination. So it does a bit of both. And of course, you know, we briefly talked about mental health, as well, but there’s so much content around mental health and wellness, whether it’s music, whether it’s podcasts, that it helps people also understand some of the things that they need to deal with, without, you know, “embarrassing themselves” in front of friends – maybe it’s not something that they’re comfortable bringing up in front of others.

Rahul Balyan

Yeah, if I could just add a little bit. You know, the whole idea of music and stress response, It’s also kind of scientifically documented and we have studies done on it, you know, how music can relax the autonomic nervous system, lower the heart rates, improve cortisol levels and things like that. Music has a way of relaxing the entire body, and mind in a certain way. I think those effects obviously play out as well. So there’s a real impact of music on stress levels, which can be measured, actually.

Prasenjit

All in all, I guess we can say that audio is impacting Gen-Z in more ways than one, right?

Rahul Balyan

So I think music is something that plays a very key role and that we are seeing in the research, is that music is the number one fallback option on both unwinding, relaxing, and staying connected with the pop culture of the country – so that’s how I would look at it.

Vasundhara

And I think that can also, you know, maybe not to the same extent, but that also sort of extends to podcasters. So maybe how creators are really influencing Gen Z and helping them you know, whether, as Rahul said, it’s connecting to artists, it’s listening to a certain type of music, but it’s also about listening to, say, motivational content, things that help them learn but also things that help them disconnect and unwind – especially for podcasts, from a learning perspective and music, of course, for both music and podcasts for unwinding and for relaxing.

Shark Tank India’s Ghazal Alagh Broke Down When A Blogger Jibed “Bachha Nahi Sambhal Sakte, Business Kaise?”

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Mama Earth’s founder and bosslady Ghazal Alagh, recalled how she was trolled by a blogger once, that shattered her. The Shark Tank India judge was chatting with author Chetan Bhagat on his YouTube show Deeptalk. She recalled how an influential blogger mocked her for carrying her baby whilst juggling with business. She had approached the blogger to get her brand featured. Alagh was with her toddler, when it started crying, while she was speaking with the so-called blogger. And pat came an absolute snide remark by the celebrated blogger – “Aapse bachha sambhal nahi raha, aap business kaise banayengi (How you gonna manage a business when you can’t even handle a baby)?” Alagh couldn’t control her tears for hours after the incident. Apple’s Mixed Reality Headset Is Set To Enter Mass Production In March 2023

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

The creator of the iPhone is “pushing forward on development” of its MR headgear and Pegatron is the only partner for the final assembly. The headset’s mass manufacturing is likely to begin in March 2023, and it might be presented the following month.

According to reports, the first headset from the IT giant will only be available to business clients due to its expensive price and extremely restricted initial manufacturing.

The manufacturing partners of the tech giant are apparently willing to work with the corporation on the project despite the headset’s low profitability in order to showcase their technological expertise and position themselves for future AR and VR (virtual reality) gadgets, the report added.

As per June 2022 rumour, the business may deliver its AR-MR headset in January 2023. The enormous potential market demand in China and “Apple AR/MR, which would likely ship in January 2023, would also favour the ongoing rapid expansion of the headgear industry,” according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Despite Apple’s repeated statements to the contrary, Kuo had projected that “Apple AR/MR enabling video see-thru might likewise deliver an amazing immersive experience.”

Ex-Twitter Employee Receives 10-Year ‘Twittersary’ Gift, Days After Getting Fired

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

A bemused Elaine Filadelfo opened a package days after getting axed during the massive layoff at Twitter. The special delivery took the former Twitter exec by surprise. Not a pleasant one though. It was a memento celebrating her ‘Twitterversary’ for her 10th work anniversary at the company, which she was recently fired from. The letter reads like this – Elaine, Happy Twitterversary! Congrats on reaching a huge Tweep milestone. We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish this year. #OneTeam sd- Twitter.

Elaine verifies that the content of her tweet is 100 percent real, mentioning the date on the tracking sticker.

this is 100p real and not a bit. look at the date on the tracking sticker!

Eliane served the company as the Senior Research Manager, Consumer Insights (Communication and Corporate Reputation). She was also the Head of Data Communication at the Bird app for five years before being promoted to another division. Prior to her 10 year stint at Twitter, Eliane was a data analyst at the Brooklyn, (NY) based HFA. After completing her Bachelors in Sociology from Princeton in 2007, she joined Google and worked there for 3 years as a Senior Associate, Global Communications & Public Affairs.

It’s a madhouse at Twitter, as rabble rouser Musk is fiddling with his new toy. He dissolved the board of directors and effectively became the commander in chief. As a cost cutting measure, the billionaire fired thousands of employees, including almost the entirety of Twitter’s team in India. Meanwhile, he’s got onboard a desi strategist, Sriram Krishanan, to help him with overhauling the bird app. There’s a subscription fee for blue ticks now. Product managers are burning the midnight oil to get the requisite changes done. Musk’s diktat for the engineers is to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to reach his deadlines. Amid all the chaos, wonder how is the mental health of devs and other staff who are chronically ill and still working their tails off to save their job at one of the largest tech company in the world. Amid all the chaos someone manages to send a 10th year anniversary memento to a recently fired manager.

The Great Reset: Elon Musk Says All Dormant Accounts Inactive For 15 Years Will Be Purged

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

The wasteland of social media is a ghost town of abandoned accounts. A handful of the users might still be active with alternate accounts, but the majority of these ghost accounts have been defunct for years. It also comprises accounts created by early users who flocked in to check out the new town called Twitter. Some of these accounts have quirky, unique handles that you might be drooling to lay hand on. Alas! There aren’t any other options for now than to create alternate handles. This might come to an end very soon. Responding to a user’s query, Musk affirmed that dormant and defunct accounts will be purged. Soonish.

That’s coming

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 10, 2022

Within days of Twitter’s acquisition, Musk is busy dismantling the app as we have known it for a while now. While old management has been axed, thousands of employees have been laid off as part of cost cutting measures. Some of these employees feel retaliated for their ideologies as well. That aside, there’s a structural overhaul of the app happening in real time. Changes are being made and revoked within hours. Musk wrote that Twitter will do a lot of dumb things in coming months. When Elon Musk says a lot, he means limitless. There’s no bound to how crazy he can get with product management. Prayers and best wishes for the product and development team. It’s gonna get crazier.

Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months.

We will keep what works & change what doesn’t.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 9, 2022

Will this affect the recent wave of users quitting the app? The best guess is that Musk might charge to re-activate your account. It’s been all about money. A crazy truckload of money. With advertisers slowly abandoning Twitter, the best bet is to charge users upfront. How this is going to pan out is quite intriguing.

Now this begs the question, how precious is a “username” to you?

All Is Not Well In The Tech World! After Twitter And Meta, Salesforce Reportedly Sacks Hundreds Of Employees

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Recession is imminent, and the IT sector may suffer the greatest losses. To better prepare for the next recession, IT corporations throughout the globe are laying off employees. Salesforce, a different tech business, has now declared that it will fire hundreds of staff this week in order to reduce spending.

According to reports, the allegations state that it fired almost 1000 individuals worldwide. Accountability is a key component of our sales performance methodology. The official statement from Salesforce on the layoffs reads, “Unfortunately, that can result in individuals leaving the firm, and we help them through their transition.

The business is aiming for $50 billion in revenue by FY26, according to Salesforce CFO Amy Weaver, and it also wants to become more profitable by aiming for a 25% operating margin within that same time frame. Cost-cutting is, of course, the route to achieving that aim.

Enterprise software company #Salesforce is gearing up to lay off as many as 2,500 employees in a fresh round of job cuts.

Blue Tick Saga Continues As Elon Musk Officially Kills New Label Feature For Twitter Hours After Launch

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

The most recent change to Twitter, which added an “Official” badge to some verified accounts, disappeared as quickly as it had come. The official account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one among a few handles with the new tag.

As a result, there was a lot of misunderstanding, and the social media giant’s “Elon Musk remarked, “Please be aware that Twitter will do a lot of stupid things in the coming months. What works will be kept, and what doesn’t will be changed.” Elon Musk said after American YouTuber Marques Brownlee tweeted a tweet confirming the label’s disappearance.

The $7.99 membership plan is viewed as one approach to recouping the loss of advertisers since Musk gained control of the business. As a result of the firm losing $4 million per day, Musk said that Twitter had to terminate half of its 7,500 employees last week.

Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro Catastrophically Fails Durability Test; Snaps in Two Pieces

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Have you ever imagined snapping your phone in half or accidentally getting it snapped? While that would be the wildest nightmare for any smartphone enthusiast, companies nowadays focus more on the looks and the features of the mobile phone instead of making them durable and robust. One fine example of this argument is usually proved by our YouTuber friend JerryRigEverything. Yes! We are talking about Zack Nelson, who is behind the camera during all the durability tests. Unfortunately, only a few phones are strong enough to survive the high-level torture he enforces during the durability test.

In the latest video, Nelson has tested the newly launched Asus ROG 6 Pro and boy, oh boy! the handset wasn’t able to take the bend test and disappointingly snapped in half. If you are curious to see the bend, you can watch the video at the end of this article.

Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro Durability Test

The durability test of the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro also started similar to the other phones; Nelson unboxed the brand new ROG Phone 6 Pro and initiated the first stage of his durability test. Last time ROG Phone 5 Pro could not tolerate the bend test; let’s see what happens this time. First, Nelson started the scratch test, calculated on the Mohs scale. Thanks to Gorilla Glass Victus, the phone display started scratching at level 6, and deeper grooves were noticed at level 7.

Nelson also confirmed that the chassis is made of aluminium, thanks to the razor blade treatment, and it’s surprising to see that the buttons are removable. The camera bump is prone to scratches, but we believe that you will not always carry a razor blade in your pocket, so no worries on that part.

Next was the flame test which ROG Phone 6 Pro’s AMOLED display survived for 30 seconds, and the burned area lost all the pixels and never recovered. The in-display fingerprint scanner seems to work fine even with the level 7 deeper groves.

Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro Bend Test

JerryRigEverything

JerryRigEverthing is known for its brutal bend tests; we all know that the amount of pressure Nelson implies on the phone is not usual, but it looks incredible to watch. He tried the same with ROG Phone 6 Pro, and it seems that the phone wasn’t able to take the bend test, and it only goes all out on the first try. The ROG Phone 6 fails the bend test catastrophic again twice a row. The rear panel scattered like anything, however, the Gorilla Glass Victus works amazingly fine, and it didn’t show any cracks even after the bend test. If you are buying the Asus POG Phone 6 Pro for your gaming desires, we recommend keeping it carefully.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 9, 2022

One of the salient features of Twitter, the ‘Blue Tick’ has got many netizens worried ever since Musk announced an $8 subscription. There will be a ‘Grey Tick’ as well for notable profiles. Accounts that parodied Musk were suspended. No warning will be issued, remarked Musk, over permanent suspension of parody accounts that impersonate without mentioning so. After firing thousands, some of the employees were apparently called back, citing errors in comms. So, you see, it’s a bit of both happening at Twitter. Dumb and crazy.

Amid all of the chaos and cacophony, users are abandoning the Bird app for Mastodon.

Facebook Owner Meta To Lay Off 11,000 People, Or 13% Of Its Workforce

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

The reports were true.

Facebook‘s umbrella company Meta is laying off 11,000 workers, or about 13 percent of its workforce. The company also plans to cut discretionary spending, and it will extend its hiring freeze throughout the next quarter.

Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the news in a blog post Wednesday, saying the decision was among the “most difficult” in Meta’s history.

“I want to take accountability for these decisions and for how we got here. I know this is tough for everyone, and I’m especially sorry to those impacted,” he wrote.

In the post, Zuckerberg blames his reaction to the COVID pandemic, which initially led to “outsized revenue growth.”

“Many people predicted this would be a permanent acceleration that would continue even after the pandemic ended. I did too, so I made the decision to significantly increase our investments. Unfortunately, this did not play out the way I expected,” he wrote. “The macroeconomic downturn, increased competition, and ads signal loss have caused our revenue to be much lower than I’d expected.”

The decision comes after a drop in revenue and a sharp drop in stock price, partially fuelled by Zuckerberg’s insistence to invest billions of dollars in the virtual reality ecosystem called the metaverse.

Zuckerberg did not give up on the metaverse, however. “We’ve shifted more of our resources onto a smaller number of high priority growth areas — like our AI discovery engine, our ads and business platforms, and our long-term vision for the metaverse,” he wrote in the note announcing the layoffs.

The employees who were fired mostly lost access to Meta systems on Wednesday, which Zuckerberg claims was due to the “amount of access to sensitive information.” They will get 16 weeks of severance pay, plus two additional weeks for ever year of service, paid remaining PTO time, and covered healthcare for them and their families for six months, among other support measures.

As for what comes next, Zuckerberg said the company will share more on how it plans to continue forward “in the weeks ahead.”

Twitter’s ‘Official’ Checkmark Rollout Was A Mess

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Twitter’s “Official” checkmark is gone before it even had time to be fully rolled out. The grey tick debuted on Wednesday (Nov. 9) like a fart in the wind: impossible to ignore for a moment, then quickly gone forever.

The new label specified that a celebrity, publication, or public figure was actually that person. It spelled out the word “Official” with a grey checkmark underneath the person or publication’s handle. So pretty much it did the job of the old blue checkmark, which new Twitter head Elon Musk is selling off for $8 per month. So the “Official” label was basically a second tick doing the job of the original checkmark to allow Twitter to sell absolutely meaningless blue ticks to people who are willing to pay.

Who could have predicted something so, um, easy to understand would be a total disaster?

The new checkmark hit timelines before midday eastern time Wednesday. Most major American publications, including Mashable, seemed to be labeled “Official.” On the other hand, which celebrities and public figures got grey checkmarks seemed pretty confusing. It appeared to be quite random. And frankly, two checkmarks on one account just doesn’t look right.

But as quickly as the new checkmark was unveiled, it was gone. Perhaps Twitter quickly realized it was a heck of a job to decide who got the check and who didn’t. Hours after it debuted all publications and people were stripped of the “Official” badge. Apparently, Elon Musk himself made the call.

Popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee tweeted that his “Official” badge was gone just over an hour after it he tweeted he had gotten it.

“I just killed it,” Musk replied, later adding, “Blue check will be the great leveler.”

So it seems Musk is perhaps recommitting to the idea that a purchased blue tick — which requires no actual verification of identity — will carry the exact same weight as the verification for a government official or major publication.

Soon after killing the “Official” badge, Musk tweeted: “Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months. We will keep what works & change what doesn’t.”

Alrighty then, so we can expect more dumb stuff.

If You Buy A Blue Checkmark, Twitter Will Tell On You

November 10, 2022 by Sherry

Elon Musk has officially given the green light to the new $8 Twitter Blue subscription.

After a false start over the weekend and a one-day delay due to the midterm elections, the new Twitter Blue service officially went live on Wednesday.

What do users get? The blue verification badge, of course! That’s the main draw, even though Twitter isn’t doing anything to verify if the person is who they claim to be.

What else do they get? Well, as of right now…nothing. Everything else that’s listed as a feature — priority placement in replies, the ability to post longer videos, and 50 percent less ads in your feed — are all marked as coming soon.

However, there is one feature that wasn’t previously announced. Twitter has unintentionally built in the mocking “this mf paid for Twitter” meme that’s been going around since Musk announced the $8 verification service.

The “this mf paid for Twitter” meme has been very popular on the social media platform since Elon Musk announced his $8 vision.

Twitter now actually tells you which MF’ers paid for that blue checkmark. To find out for yourself, simply go to a verified user’s profile page on desktop or mobile, and tap on the blue checkmark.

If the user was part of the prior verification system —the one where they actually had to be a relevant figure who was likely to be impersonated — you’ll see this:

This prompt shows up when clicking the blue checkmark for actual legacy verified Twitter users.

But if the account is only verified because they are paying $8 for it, then you’ll see this:

This is what Twitter displays after tapping on a blue checkmark that someone paid for.

That’s right, that mf paid for Twitter.

It is actually good news that Twitter is making that distinction, even if it is quite funny. It’s unclear how many people will know to click the blue checkmark to see if the blue-checkmarked user actually is a legitimate verified member or someone simply paying for the privilege.

The new Twitter Blue subscription launches on the same day Twitter experimented with (and ultimately rolled back) a second “Official” tick in order to verify actual brands and notable users as the new subscription service effectively renders the blue checkmark useless.

As for who is paying for Twitter Blue so far, a quick scroll through the live public Twitter feed will show you that mostly crypto, NFT, and low-follower social media “influencer” accounts seem to be diving in.

My favorite was this person I came across laughing at the absurdity of their 35 follower account being verified.

A few Twitter users paying for verification also complained that they were unable to change their display name after subscribing to Twitter Blue, although this seems to be a bug.

It’s worth noting that users who previously subscribed to the prior, cheaper version of Twitter Blue will have also been given a blue checkmark without having had to upgrade, at least for now.

On a recent Twitter Space that Musk attended on Wednesday as the feature went live, the “Chief Twit” explained to advertisers that if a Twitter Blue subscriber impersonated a brand, they would be suspended and Twitter would keep their $8. Of course, scammers and spammers will just create new accounts, but Musk doesn’t seem to have an answer for that conundrum yet.

Also, while the user base for the $8 Twitter Blue is currently unclear, projections based on available data do not look good for Musk.

Elon Musk Is Allegedly Unblocking And Unmuting Himself From Twitter Users’ Accounts; Report

November 9, 2022 by Sherry

In the last couple of weeks, Twitter is being on a roller-coaster ride and it has been quite interesting for us to witness the new changes. In the latest report, it has been suggested that Twitter users who had once blocked or muted Elon Musk’s account claimed that his account has been unblocked and unmuted without their consent.

Some Twitter users like Shan Horan and Steve Bowler claimed that Musk had been unblocked without their concern. While Nazih Fares shared a tweet explaining that he muted Elon Musk for more than a year and suddenly he started appearing to him.

It seems to be unmuted as well. I had “it” muted for almost a year now, and he’s now re-apearing

— Nazih Fares (@nazihfares) November 7, 2022

SEE ALSO: Elon Musk Can’t Tweet His Way Out Of This

What Is Twitter Muting?

Muting somebody’s account allows a user to choose whether or not to ignore messages from that identity. This implies that the software is removing the digital barriers, the users may have chosen to place between themselves and Musk’s content, without their permission.

Elon Musk UNBLOCKED HIMSELF for my account?????? The FUCK??? pic.twitter.com/ckH9KIe2OK

— Deep Space Fine (@thisismewhatevs) November 7, 2022

The company took some time to respond to the claims.

To prevent someone from reading their tweets, following them, or contacting them, an account can employ the block option. Muting anyone including Musk prevents their posts from appearing in your feed. Both are crucial tools that users can utilize to stop harassment on the network from other users or automated bots. This provides the users more power to decide what kind of content they want to view when they browse Twitter.

At a time when advertisers are being sceptical of having their brands associated with Musk’s platform, blocked or muted accounts are likely to gain less engagement as other users choose not to view their content. Unlike most CEOs of major tech businesses, Musk routinely uses the app to provide information about the company, ask people about features, and make jokes and memes about anyone who is sceptical of his leadership.

Just confirmed this. I had him blocked. He is no longer blocked. JFC.

This man-child needs to seriously grow up. https://t.co/qbt6vaBK28

Musk who once stated, he doesn’t believe in permanently blocking or banning accounts, ordered the suspension of users who had previously swindled his Twitter profile, including comedian Kathy Griffin and former NFL player Chris Kluwe.

Some Twitter users claim that their ban over Elon Musk’s account has been removed without their consent. A few also claimed that Musk’s account is no longer muted for them, although they once chose it.

Meta Joins The Blood Bath; Mark Zuckerberg Fires More Than 11,000 Employees

November 9, 2022 by Sherry
